The Board Doctor’s Annual Checkup:
A Board Governance Self-Assesment
Facilitated self-assessment is a great way for a board of directors to evaluate their performance against a comprehensive set of standards. This will allow the board to identify where they are performing well and not so well, and then make decisions together about what, if anything, to address. Because it is comprehensive, The Board Doctor’s Annual Checkup can be used be boards of any size or state of health.
Complete Online Survey
All board members answer the assessment questions confidentially in a secure online portal. The ten sections cover governance topics ranging from legal compliance to board meetings to financials and beyond.
Identify Areas of Strength
The report provides question-by-question pie charts to easily see where all agree the board is doing well. Pat yourselves on the back - and keep it going!
Build Consensus
Board members discuss areas where the report shows differing perspectives, grow their understanding of what is working or not working for each other, and find ways to move toward each other.
Prioritize Areas Needing Improvement
The summary report provides 3-5 recommendations for high-yield action steps the board can review together as they consider what changes are (or are not) needed.
Develop an Improvement Plan
Once the board has decided what action steps to take, it's time to make a plan. Place highest priority items on the calendar for upcoming meetings and assign responsibility for taking the lead roles.
Implement Priority Changes
Assessing strengths and weaknesses is one thing, actually making the changes in another - but The Board Doctor has your back. Get the guidance you need in our Nonprofit Vitality learning community.
