Facilitation for Planning
Sometimes it takes a bit of effort to get everyone on the same page before making any changes to the board of directors and how it is operating. A board development plan, complete with a vision, goals, strategies and action steps will help make sure everyone is in agreement before moving forward. The Board Doctor can help your board engage in a planning process that is inclusive, focused on the best interests of the organization and its mission, and results in a plan that is clear and implementable.
Document Review and/or Development
It takes time and effort to get all of the board’s policies in place: financial controls, human resources, volunteers, advocacy, conflict of interest, document retention and destruction, board, officer and committee job descriptions. The Board Doctor can help your group review existing documents for potential revision (this includes bylaws!) and help develop original policy documents to support your good governance efforts.
Customized Training
The thing about serving as a volunteer on a board of directors is that it’s fairly rare to get any real training about what the role entails or how to do it well. Because board members come to the role with a variety of experiences, there may well be different perspectives about what it takes to be successful. The Board Doctor can customize and deliver a workshop directly to your boardroom about roles and responsibilities, legal requirements, governance practices, and more, and then help facilitate conversation about what is best for your board.
Retainer-based services are also available for those who would like a longer-term engagement. This can include attending board meetings and providing feedback, support for implementing a board development plan, or an extended process of compiling a board policy manual.
